CNOOC Limited Commences Production at First Green Design Oilfield in Offshore China

CNOOC Limited, a Hong Kong-based oil and gas company, has announced the commencement of production at the Wushi 23-5 Oilfields Development Project, the first green design oilfield in offshore China. Located in the Beibu Gulf of the South China Sea, the project features two new wellhead platforms and a renovated Wushi terminal. It is expected to bring 43 development wells on-stream, including 28 oil wells and 15 water-injection wells. The project aims to achieve a peak production of approximately 18,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026, with the oil property being light crude.

CNOOC Limited has prioritized efficient and low-carbon development throughout the design, construction, and production phases of the project. Notably, it is the first oilfield in the South China Sea to be powered from shore. The project also incorporates integrated natural gas treatment for full-process recovery and utilization of associated gas. The commissioning of this project is expected to further promote CNOOC Limited’s commitment to green and low-carbon development.
