Fascia’s Chocolates in Waterbury Continues to Thrive After 60 Years

Fascia’s Chocolates, a family-owned business in Waterbury, Connecticut, has been successfully selling chocolates for 60 years. Founded by John and Helen Fascia, the company continues to thrive under the leadership of their daughter, Louise Romeo, who serves as the COO, and son-in-law Carmen Romeo, the company president. The couple, now in their 80s, actively participates in running the business.

Recently, Fascia’s Chocolates hosted a “Chocolate Experience” for 12 members of the Fairfield Senior Center. Carmen Romeo gave a presentation on the history of chocolate and the Fascia’s story, educating over 55,000 people in the past 11 years. The experience also included a taste test of the chocolates and an opportunity for participants to make their own chocolate bars.

Fascia’s Chocolates offers over 100 items for sale, including various flavors of gelato. The company takes pride in using traditional recipes and techniques, while also incorporating new technology to improve efficiency. All products are made in-house in small batches to ensure quality and freshness.

The busiest time of the year for Fascia’s Chocolates is from November to April, accounting for 70% of their business. To attract customers during slower periods, the company partnered with the Railroad Museum of New England in 2015 to offer the “Chocolate Decadence Tour.” This three-hour tour includes a stop at Fascia’s, where participants can make their own chocolate bars and enjoy wine tasting from guest wineries.

Fascia’s Chocolates has expanded its reach through wholesale partnerships, with products now available in 115 locations across Connecticut. The company also supports non-profits and has a licensing agreement with Yale University. With the involvement of the Romeo family’s younger generation, including Matthew Romeo as the wholesale manager, Fascia’s Chocolates looks forward to continued growth and success.

Throughout their journey, John and Helen Fascia have remained dedicated to their passion for chocolate and have overcome challenges to build a thriving business.
