French Voters Propel Far-Right National Rally to Strong Lead in First-Round Legislative Elections

French voters have given the far-right National Rally a strong lead in the first-round legislative elections, causing political uncertainty in France. Polling projections indicate that the National Rally stands a good chance of winning a majority in the lower house of parliament for the first time. President Emmanuel Macron had urged voters to rally against the far right. The National Rally’s estimated one-third of the first-round vote is nearly double their 18% in the first round in 2022. These results mark a significant shift in French politics.
