A proposal to implement a $15 congestion toll in Manhattan’s central business district has faced criticism from Mayor Adams and other officials. They expressed concerns about the impact on constituents and called for more exemptions and discounts, particularly for medical visits. However, Governor Hochul noted that the $15 proposal was lower than a previously discussed $23 toll. The plan, drafted by the Traffic Mobility Review Board (TMRB), aims to reduce traffic and raise revenue. Transit advocates have welcomed the proposal, while some union representatives and officials have raised concerns about the lack of enhanced transit options and medical exemptions. The TMRB’s recommendations will undergo a 60-day public review before a final vote by the MTA in March. The congestion toll is expected to be implemented in May.
