Salish Kootenai College President to Present Lecture at Augustana University

Dr. Sandra Boham, the president of Salish Kootenai College, will be delivering a lecture titled “A People of Vision” at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The lecture is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, and will take place in Room 102 of Hanson Hall of Science. The event is part of Augustana’s spring Celebration of Learning and is sponsored by the Augustana Center for the Study of Ethics. The lecture is open to the public free of charge.

Salish Kootenai College, founded in 1977 by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, aims to preserve the cultural traditions of the Salish, Kootenai, and North Pend d’Orielle (Kalispel) people while also preparing young tribal members for success in a rapidly changing world. The college offers courses in the Salish and Kootenai languages, as well as Native American Studies courses covering various topics such as tipi construction, basket weaving, and drumming and singing. Additionally, the college provides a wide range of majors, including business management, engineering, nursing, and wildlife management.

Dr. Boham’s lecture is expected to be informative and engaging, offering insights into the vision and experiences of the Salish people. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural preservation efforts undertaken by Salish Kootenai College and the challenges faced by indigenous communities.
