Walmart Faces Criticism for Shortened Opening Hours

Walmart shoppers have expressed dissatisfaction with the national retailer’s decision to shorten its opening hours. This comes as part of several changes implemented by Walmart and other nationwide chains, aimed at streamlining checkout processes and reducing shoplifting incidents. Some customers have reported technical issues with self-checkout systems or unintentionally taking items, leading to complications. Additionally, shoppers have voiced frustration over employees checking their receipts, perceiving it as a waste of time or an uncomfortable experience.

Recently, two Walmart shoppers criticized the retailer’s new opening hours, prompting them to consider alternatives like Amazon. One customer, Vic3 crypto, expressed concerns that Walmart’s closure at 10 pm would impact their competitiveness against Amazon. Another shopper, vee, deemed the limited opening hours unacceptable and suggested a closing time of 2 am.

Walmart initially adjusted its operating hours, along with other companies, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rumors circulated on social media suggesting that Walmart would revert to its 24/7 operating policy, but these claims were debunked. Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington confirmed that there are no current plans to return to 24-hour operations.
